Why the Competition Falls Flat: The Power of a Live Map Feature

Why the Competition Falls Flat: The Power of a Live Map Feature

While platforms like Facebook, Eventbrite, and Google Maps offer event and business discovery, they lack a seamless, real-time GPS map that integrates local events, businesses, and personal connections. Their interfaces can be cluttered or too specialized, making community engagement harder. Venue can fill this gap by offering an intuitive, live map that connects users to their local community in real time.

I conducted interviews with 7 individuals within my local community to gain some more insight on how they might discover events and businesses. I then organized my findings through Affinity mapping.

Grouping Events

  • Based on user feedback, prevents congestion of event pins so users don’t need to precisely zoom and scroll on the map.

  • Events in close proximity will group into one pin as users zoom out. When users tap on the pin group a scrolling feed pops up containing more details on each event.

Post as Group

  • Originally to post as a group users would have to navigate to their groups menu first

  • Per user feedback I eliminated that step by adding a “post as” dropdown to the general “New Event” menu that can be accessed anytime on the menu bar.

Event Preview

  • Added event previews per user feedback.

  • Originally clicking on a pin would open the event feed. The edition of a preview that takes up less screen space helped tie the user flow from the map to an event better.

Discover nearby events in the form of pins on a map. As you zoom out pins will group. When tapping on a group of pins a feed of event previews will pop up. Tapping on a preview will reveal more details about the event and a feed of comments.
